| At Carnegie Museums
of Art and Natural History,
you have
two museums
to explore!
Museum summer camps deliver the world! The entire museum campus is a field for discovery and creativity, where kids investigate nature, art, architecture, science, and culture. Uncover fascinating museum treasures in famous galleries and exhibits, such as the Scaife Galleries of ancient to contemporary art and Dinosaurs in Their Time. Weeklong half- and
full-day programs engage children from Pre-K through high school.
Partnerships with Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture and Powdermill Nature Reserve, the environmental research center of Carnegie Museum of Natural History, broaden experiences beyond the museums.

2013 Carnegie International-themed camps
The Playground Project—the first phase of the 2013
Carnegie International exhibition—opens in June and is the inspiration for many art camp themes this summer. Exploring play as the root of thinking and creativity, the
project includes an exhibition of important 20th-century playground designs as well as a new play sculpture at the museum. Some projects
created in camp this summer might even make their way into our student gallery during the
International this fall!
NEW! Architecture 101: Structures & Spaces for Play (High School Workshop)
This new program introduces concepts and processes typical of a first-year college architecture program. Working individually and collaboratively, students learn about design development, siting, materials, and other issues with the goal of creating original designs for structures and spaces for creative play. Representation methods include drawing in plan and section, rendering,
and model making.
Youth Museum Institute
Our in-depth science and nature investigations for ages
11–13 take the camp experience to the next level. Develop skills in leadership, exhibit design, and independent learning that last long after camp is over. Unique field trips include kayaking with Venture Outdoors, a cave walk through Laurel Caverns, and more!
Plus—there's more to do at Powdermill!
In addition to the field trips included with some of our camps,
Powdermill Nature Reserve, the environmental research center of Carnegie Museum of Natural History, also offers
summer programs for children ages 5–12. Fun-filled days await campers as they explore the great outdoors, view wildlife up close, and make exciting discoveries about the natural world.
