In Harmony with Nature II: Photos by Donald M. Robinson is a celebration of landscapes, wildlife, and the human condition. Join nationally acclaimed photographer Donald Robinson on a gallery tour of these beautiful pictorial essays.

In Harmony with Nature II is on view in Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s R.P. Simmons Family Gallery through September 14.

Born of Fire: The Pottery of Margaret Tafoya

Considered a master of her art, Margaret Tafoya was the last of the early 20th century Pueblo pottery matriarchs. Inspired by tales from her parents and grandparents, Tafoya was known for her ability to make unusually large storage and water jars made in the tradition of her ancestors.

Join us for an inspirational tour of Born of Fire: The Pottery of Margaret Tafoya and lunch in the Museum Café. Afterwards, discover your personal talisman and record it on a ceramic tile with Pollock’s guidance.

Insects, Ink, and Inklings is a collection of Jane Hyland’s most recent artwork and specimens from the museum’s extensive collection. Join the artist for a discussion of this exhibition and the complex and fascinating anatomy of moths.

Experience how CMNH is utilizing videoconference technology and the videogame graphics revolution to deliver unique and expanded educational programming. Get a one-of-a-kind look at how the videoconference program creates visually rich interactive presentations for student audiences in Pittsburgh and in locations several hundred miles away, and enjoy virtual tours of an ancient Egyptian temple, a Seneca village, and a mini-museum.

The Boy from Abydos: Secrets of His Life and Death

Join Dr. Sandra Olsen on a journey of discovery. A Ptolemaic mummy, dating to between 304–250 BC and acquired by CMNH in 1911, underwent a CT scan to reveal its age, sex, stature, and health condition. Elaborate mortuary practices performed on his body are also documented in the scans. Learn just what these scans reveal, including what serious illness plagued this small boy.
