Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors can work toward badges, patches, quests, or journeys with programs at Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Our scout programs are a fun, creative way to learn about science and nature all year long.

Brownie Household Elf Badge

Brownie Household Elf Merit BadgeCalling all Girl Scouts! Find out how to make the world a better place by reducing waste, saving energy, conserving water, and reusing materials. Learn about the importance of clean air and connections to environmental health. Bring a clean and gently used clothing item to donate as part of the badge. Brownies who complete the workshop will receive the Household Elf badge.

Badge requirements met during workshop: Household Elf Step 1 Choice 3, Step 2 Choice 3, Step 3 Choice 1, Step 4 Choice 3, Step 5 Choice 3 (Note: After the workshop, some requirements will need to be completed at home with a family member.)

Registration fee includes same-day admission to Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History. Required adult chaperones may register at no charge: one Girl Scout registered adult per five scouts for groups or one Girl Scout registered adult per independent scout. Chaperone requirements ensure that all workshop activities maintain two-deep leadership.

Boy Scouts American Cultures Merit Badge

Boy Scouts American Cultures Merit BadgeLearn a traditional American Indian story, and teach it to a group of your friends. Analyze artifacts and museum dioramas in Alcoa Foundation Hall of American Indians to explore the differences between religious and social customs of the Tlingit, Hopi, Lakota, and Iroquois societies. Discover how these traditions thrive today and contribute actively to American culture.

Merit Badge pre-requisites: American Culture 5

Merit Badge requirements met during workshop: American Culture 1d, 1e, 2-4

Required adult chaperones may register at no charge: one BSA registered adult per five scouts for groups or one BSA registered adult per independent scout. Boy Scouts Gology Merit BadgeWhat is a rock? What is a mineral? Identify rocks and minerals based on color, shape, and other physical properties. Use your new skills, and go on a quest for rocks and minerals at the museum. Conduct hands-on experiments to test chemical and physical properties of minerals.

Merit Badge pre-requisites: Geology NONE

Merit Badge requirements met during workshop: Geology 1-3, 4b, 5c, or 5d

Required adult chaperones may register at no charge: one BSA registered adult per five scouts for groups or one BSA registered adult per independent scout. Junior and Cadette First Aid Badge

Junior and Cadette First Aid Merit BadgesGirl Scouts can visit the museum to learn first aid skills and practice what to do in the event of an emergency. Come prepared to ask questions about how to respond in the event of an emergency with our visiting first responder! Girl Scouts will also assemble their own personal first aid kit. Juniors and Cadettes who complete the workshop will receive the First Aid Badge.

First Aid (Juniors): Step 1 Choice 1, Step 2 Choice 2, Step 3 Choice 1, Step 4 Choice 2, Step 5 Choice 1

Brownie Bugs Merit BadgeCalling all Girl Scouts! Explore the big wide world of tiny bugs. Visit the museum to learn about what they eat, how they move, and where they live. Look closely at museum specimens, and watch real live bugs in action. Make your own butterfly, and draw a buggy poster! Brownies who complete the workshop will receive the Bugs Badge and Daisies who complete the workshop will receive the Bug Patch.

Learn about the traditional dwellings, clothing, and crafts of the Iroquois in the Alcoa Foundation Hall of American Indians.

Merit Badge pre-requisites: Archaeology 4 and 5

Merit Badge requirements met during workshop: Archaeology 1-3, 6, 7a, 8b, 9a, 10, 11

Learn about the lifestyles, diets and habitats of reptiles and amphibians that live locally and globally.
