Studies have shown that people retain information about animals better when interacting with live animal ambassadors. This helps us make connections to the work being done by our scientists, as well as better engage guests in a variety of natural history topics.
At the museum, we have a dedicated team of animal handlers trained to care for the animals in the Living Collection. We train our staff to ensure they are comfortable with the animals no matter what situation they may encounter during a program and our animals in turn can feel comfortable as well. Some staff take animals out of the museum, while others provide daily care. Regardless of who does what, our team is dedicated to the wellbeing of each animal they work with.
