A resident of the Pittsburgh Zoo in the 1960s and 1970s, George was an amiable gorilla known for his playful antics. Following the 14-year-old ape’s death from natural causes, zoo staff asked our curators if they would be interested in giving George a new home. He has been educating the public in our Hall of African Wildlife since 1981.
