Powdermill Nature Reserve
Event Navigation
Bats have numerous ecological and economic benefits including, for species in the northeast U.S., insect suppression and nutrient distribution. Yet the negative stereotypes and myths associated with bats can adversely affect efforts toward their conservation. Wildlife Biologist and Powdermill Volunteer, Julie Zeyzus will discuss species found in Pennsylvania and documented at Powdermill Nature Reserve, provide an overview of the challenges bats face, and discuss national strategies and applications for the backyard bat biologist that will contribute to the conservation of these important yet often misunderstood mammals.
Join us as we explore seasonal natural history phenomena of Powdermill Nature Reserve! A lecture will be given in the Parker Room at 2 pm. Lectures are structured for adult audiences, and children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Events fill up fast! Registration is recommended to guarantee your spot and help us plan timing, seating, and/or trail routes. If there are spots available at the time of the program, non-registered individuals can join on a first-come, first-served basis. Program participants and visitors are expected to adhere to the public health guidance and Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh procedures in place at the time of their visit.
