Identification

Width: 2.3 mm
Height: 7 mm
Whorls: 6.5

Allopeas micra (previously Lamellaxis micra) has an elongate shell with a simple lip and perforate umbilicus (Pilsbry, 1946). The shell sculpture is widely-spaced thread-like striae after the first couple of smooth whorls.

Ecology

This tropical species lives in the leaf litter, grazing algae, fungi, or detritus (Willig et al., 2013).

Taxonomy

This species has also been known as Helix micra, Opeas micra, Bulimus octonoides, Stenogyra octonoides (Pilsbry, 1946).

Distribution

Mexico south to Bolivia and east to the West Indies (Pilsbry, 1946). Introduced to the U.S. Southeast and East Coast.
