Biography

Eleanor Hoeger is the Collection Manager of the Section of Mammals at Carnegie Museum of Natural History. She is responsible for the oversight, care, documentation, and accessibility of the museum’s mammal collections, supporting research use, collections-based projects, and long-term preservation. Her work includes coordinating collections management activities, facilitating access for researchers, and contributing to institutional priorities related to stewardship and collections planning.

Prior to joining Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Eleanor worked for over a decade in the Department of Mammalogy at the American Museum of Natural History, where she managed large-scale rehousing and re-identification projects, coordinated domestic and international specimen loans, and supported research access for visiting scholars. She also supervised volunteers and early-career professionals and participated in public outreach and collections-related education initiatives.

Earlier in her career, she held a range of conservation and collections positions at the National Museum of Natural History, contributing to specimen conservation, digitization efforts, integrated pest management, and exhibition support. Eleanor holds a Master of Arts in Museum Studies with a concentration in Natural History Collection Management from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
