Vilcabamba, Camp 1, on the confluence of the Pichari and Meanteari Rivers. (Blog 12: Part 1 of 2)
February 03, 2016
We are all safe and sound and the expedition is going according to plan. There’s lots of rain and work to do, but the spirits are high. The attack team of Ashaninka men and park ranger Angel Castellano reached yesterday an elevation of 2,100 m. We will soon follow the track they opened and will build a second camp site. We are starting to find interesting species around Camp 1 (a frog and a lizard are candidate new species). We are enjoying the astonishing diversity of life surrounding us.
José Padial and his team of researchers are traveling to the Vilcabamba mountains in Peru in the pursuit of biodiversity research. He blogs and sends photos daily capturing his expedition along the way.
